What Is It?
Wikispaces is a site that allows users to share information by creating a wiki that is visible by other members.

  • Settings like public, which allows for any person to edit your wiki, protected, which allows only people that you accept to edit your wiki, and private, which does not allow for anyone but you to edit the wiki, help users control their accounts.

  • There are also types of wikispaces accounts called Private Label accounts that allow organizations to promote their own business, but this type requires payments of up to $1,000 a year. However, organizations that pay for their memberships have access to special features such as unlimited wikis, incorporating their logos and other tools that let their wikis feel like a personalized website.

  • The more common type of wiki account is for individuals that use wikis for personal interests, schools, etc. No payment is needed fo these users and they have access so many similar tools that make creating and managing a wiki simple.

Here is a tutorial that covers the basics of wikispaces.

Your Account Page
Your dashboard is basically your home page.
  • It contains you favorite wikis, which is a list of shortcuts to some your wikis. You can regulate the list and also, by clicking on the action tab you can control major changes of those wikis (for example deleting a wiki).

  • it contains a preview of your mail inbox. With wikispaces comes your own personal email that allows you to send private messages to other members. You can access your mail from the preview on your dashboard, the mail tab at the top of your account page, and by clicking on the envelope at the top of your screen.

  • it contains a section that allows you to view any wikis that you are monitoring, or keeping track of.

  • it contains links to the wikispaces blog that contains the most recent news.

  • it contains links to the wikispaces official email and other places where you can stay connected to your wikispaces community.

Your account page also has a tab where you can view mail and a settings tab where you can chnage all the basic settings for your account, wikis, etc.
